Walter E. Corby was born on February 22, 1922. He served in the 363rd Fighter Squadron, 357th Fighter Group as a First Lieutenant during World War II. Returning from France in an AT-6 Texan, 1LT Corby and S/Sgt "Schunny" were killed as their aircraft flew into bad weather returning to Leiston, England. His plane crashed at Swingate, England on January 27, 1945. He died at the age of 22 and is now buried in the Long Island National Cemetery, East Farmingdale, Suffolk County, New York, USA.
