Hubert I. Egens was born on June 10, 1918 in Story City, Iowa. He served in the 362nd Fighter Squadron, 357th Fighter Group as a Lieutenant Colonel during World War II. LTC Egens was Killed in Action on March 28, 1944 aboard the P-51B #43-6794 aircraft. The wing of his plane hit the ground while on a strafing run and he crashed north of Melun, France during a bomber support mission. He is buried in his hometown.
