When Manuel Kum Soo, aged 24, was born on July 18, 1920, in Alameda, California, his father, Bing, was 48 and his mother, Susie, was 26. He was married to Marjorie Grail in January 1945 in Birmingham, Warwickshire, England. He served in the 364th Fighter Squadron, 357th Fighter Group as a First Lieutenant during World War II. He was killed in training, in Belgium on May 29, 1945 and is buried now in the Mountain View Cemetery, Oakland, Alameda County, California, USA.
