He served in the 364th Fighter Squadron, 357th Fighter Group as a First Lieutenant during World War II. 1LT Strode, onboard the P-51B #43-6978 aircraft, was lost on a bomber support operation on March 27, 1944, and was declared "Missing." His name is memorialized on the Tablets of the Missing, Cambridge American Cemetery, Cambridge, United Kingdom.
