Willis Franklin Hargis was born on December 20, 1920. He was the son of George Franklin Hargis and Euzelia Still Hargis.

A crew member on the C-54 #42-72698, which on December 5, 1948, crashed on takeoff. Shortly after a night takeoff from Fassberg AFB, while in initial climb, the four engine aircraft stalled and crashed near the airport. All three crew members who taking part to the Berlin Airlift were killed. 1LT Hargis is buried now in the Ross Family Cemetery, Mount Enterprise, Rusk County, Texas, USA.
