1st Infantry Division Cantigny Stele

North of D26, in the center of a road triangle. (The monument was previously located east of Cantigny on D26; it was moved in 2018 to the present location) Monument


A square light pillar, on top of which is a stone eagle (sculpted by Jo Davidson) and on its sides are four bronze tablets with the names of all 1st Infantry Division soldiers  killed or wounded during this battle.


The 1st Infantry Division Association contracted and maintains Five World War I and Five World War II all located in Europe.  The Cantigny monument  commemorates the casualties in the “first American attack of World War I” where 199 First Division soldiers were killed and another 867 wounded.
