Monument

Among the several thousand Chinese soldiers that were killed defending the city of Tengchong and are found in this Tengchong Cemetery, are the memorial stones of 19 American soldiers that were killed during this battle.

The Americans killed in and around Tengchong during the battle for the city were advisors to the Chinese forces that fought to recapture the city from the Japanese in 1944 (Y-FOS), and members of the Army Air Forces flying in support of the Chinese during the battle.  Ten of the 19 men honored in the Cemetery were with Y-FOS, and the remaining were Army Air Force men.

The Battle of Tengchong occurred in the summer of 1944.
